March 11 & 12, 2014 - Tues., San Martin, Argentina

MARCH 11-12, 2014 - TUES. & WED.

BOTTOM LINE:
Two rainy, cold days.

NOTEWORTHY:
To find a good meal in Patagonia, you have to go to dinner after 8:30 pm.

BACK STORY:
For the past two days, San Martin has had a stormy, rainy, cold weather front move in.  The wind is bone chilly so we have chosen to stay inside, catch up on correspondence and some much needed rest.

Yesterday cabin fever began to set in so we challenged ourselves to head over to the resort gym. Although there were only three pieces of equipment (treadmill, bicycle and weights) there was plenty to keep us busy for 45 minutes.   It felt good and felt even better when we were done.

the gym!??

While there, we met four women about our ages that were on a one week holiday together.  They had all worked in Argentina's social services together and had remained friends.  Esther and Maria were willing to engage in broken "Spanglish" with us.  Anna Marie arrived and it turned out that her husband's career was in Human resources for high tech companies like Bruce.

One errand that I needed to make was to the Post Office.  I went in to find a line that wrapped around the room.  I took a place at the end of the line. The office was to close in 20 minutes.  Bruce left me to go outside.  As the line began to move, I noticed people coming in after me and moving to a line that had a handicap sign posted.  No one seemed to be in special need and of course I could not read the sign that was written in Spanish.  Finally Bruce returned and it was determined that two of the lines were for paying bills.  The handicapped line was for doing postal business.  I was in the bill paying line!

Restaurants do not open for dinner service until 8:30pm.  Although it is not the way we dine, we were still on the hunt for the good beef that we had been told about.  We finally found the BEST Argentina beef restaurant to dine at in San Martin...Ku.  We each had steak which was cooked to perfection over open coals and tasted amazing.  Mine had a mushroom sauce that we shared, along with roasted vegetables and plain rice. A nice glass of Cabernet completed the meal.  So glad we found the place.
